Moms First: Eating healthy over the holidays

The Holidays are here and for many that means all bets are off when it comes to eating and cooking healthy.

Kristin St. Clair, a health and wellness adviser for Martin's, has some advice for avoiding over indulging.

" I think the key is trying to stick to your schedule. Try not to skip meals just because you know you're going to a big family dinner later on," St. Clair said. "Still have breakfast. still have healthy snacks throughout the day so we don't get to the meal. and we're starving. We can do a few things in the sense of making recipes."

"It's OK to have sweets in moderation, but let's try and one up the nutritional value.

She suggests a dark chocolate pistachio bark.

"I use dark chocolate, and then I try to pull in some nuts -- pistachios, we have healthy omega-3 acids, and we get some protein," St. Clair said. "A sweet indulgence but will give you some protein as well."

St. Clair also recoemmends a healthy dip.

"This is going to be an appetizer recipe. If you are bringing a dish, if you focus on something to bring that's healthy, this is a pomegranate salsa. So we have our pomegranate seeds right here, and then we have some diced avocado we have some pears fresh cilantro, diced red onions, and then this is just some lime juice and a dash of honey and then we are going to toss this all together," St. Clair said pointing to ingredients. "It has the nice red and green colors. This is gonna be a great, great healthy appetizer."
