Midwest RV Super Show drives Elkhart businesses

The 62nd annual Midwest RV Super Show kicks off its four day run Thursday in Elkhart.

It’s the first RV show in the country where you can see the 2018 models.

The event is being held at the RV Hall of Fame, northeast of Elkhart.

“We'll see a lot of people coming in for the show, not only are the dealers here spending money and staying in hotels and eating out,” said Show Director, Matt Rose. “We'll draw between 4,400-4,500 people over the four-day show. We'll see an uptick this weekend in travelers coming from all over the United States.”

The hotels on Elkhart’s north side are filling up with those working or attending the show. Even local campgrounds are reporting visitors with RV's who will be going to the event.

“We do have a lot people who go to the RV super show. They stay maybe one day, some stay two days, some are stay for week, and we are close to museum so a lot of people stop by here. They are from out of state,” said Gita Patel with Elkhart Campgrounds.

Callahan's restaurant is expecting business to pick up as a result of the show.

“So, we will probably be busy all weekend from the RV vendors and the people coming to buy RV's, people that want to see the RV's,” said Callahan’s Manager, Randi Doolittle. “We definitely see a surge in business, so we will be busy all weekend long put extra staff on, bring a lot of business in.”

A lot of RV owners and enthusiasts also take in local sites when they are in the Elkhart area. They also travel to Amish communities that they have never been to, or seen before.”

“They plan to stay a couple of days. I get a lot of calls about Shipshewana-- what's this Essenhaus place, I've got to try, with the pie,” said Rose. “So people are actually coming in and spending a couple of days, and spending a lot of money for the show.”

The Midwest RV Super Show runs from Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
