South Bend selling retail space below market prices

A new effort by South Bend to get businesses downtown -- by selling prime retail space at well below market prices.

Jeff Parrott with our partners at the Tribune reports the Redevelopment Commission approved a deal Thursday.

The city will sell storefronts under two city-owned parking garages on South Michigan and East Wayne streets.

Cressy and Everett will buy them for $625,000. That's a little more than half what they were appraised for.

But the city didn't receive any bids for them.
