Tennessee boy told he has 5-10 years to live asks for cards to mark milestone birthday
PARIS, Tenn. (WZTV) —
A Paris, Tenn. boy battling a heart condition is asking for cards from each state to mark his very special birthday.
Kaiden, who was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and heart failure as a baby, was told he had five to 10 years to live.
Now nearing 5 years old, Kaiden's heart failure is no more. It's a medical mystery that Vanderbilt doctors call "nothing short of a miracle."
With a normal functioning heart, Kaiden's mom Rachel Ann Houston, says his entire life is a miracle.
"He has proved everyone wrong and continues to do so. That is why the #5 means so much to us," Houston wrote in a Facebook post.
But Kaiden's fight is not over yet. He has been on hospice for the past year.
"We do not know what caused the heart disease or what cured it so we do not know if it will ever come back and we do not know his risk of an arrhythmia," Houston told Fox 17 News.
For his 5th birthday, Houston is asking for cards from each state to commemorate the special occasion.
"You can write him an inspirational quote, you can tell him how he has inspired you, or if you have children they can draw him a picture."
