(KUTV) - Suicide rates in Utah have increased by 46.5 percent, according to a recent report from the Center of Disease Control (CDC).

Utah has the fifth highest increase of suicide rates in the country.

Suicide is now the 10th leading cause of death in America. It is also the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 18 and 34.

These disturbing figures, along with the two high-profile suicide deaths of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, may leave some people wondering what we can do to change these statistics.

Jackie Biskupski, mayor of Salt Lake City, has encouraged everyone to take a moment to review the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline website.

Information on warning signs, how you can help, stories of individuals who have survived suicide attempts and more are available on the site.

"Please take just a few minutes this weekend to learn more about suicide and what we each can do to help prevent it," Biskupski said in a press release.
