A woman was killed and several others injured Saturday after a two-vehicle crash in Cass County.
It happened around 9:51 p.m. last night on M 60 Hwy near Yankee Street in Howard Township.
Police say a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Austin Brouwer of Osceola was traveling north on M 60 Hwy at a high rate of speed when Brouwer tried to pass another vehicle on the right dirt portion of the highway and he lost control.
Brouwer's vehicle then went into the paved portion of the roadway, according to officials, and hit another vehicle driven by Douglas Irving, 32, of Niles. Brouwer's vehicle then went into the grass median and flipped several times.
Brouwer was transported to Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Police say three other passengers in his vehicle were also injured.
The front seat passenger, 21-year-old Janet Menting of South Bend, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. A back seat passenger, 21-year-old Scott Voresis from South Bend, was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital where he was treated and released.
Another back seat passenger, 23-year-old Rayna DoBrodt of Mishawaka, was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, Douglas Irving, was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital where he was treated and released.
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash and safety belts were used.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department is still investigating and anyone with information is asked to contact them.
