After community rallies behind triathlete, family raises money to give back
The family of a local, well-known triathlete is asking the community to help raise money in his name.
Steve Smith, better known as Steve-O, is battling a terminal brain tumor. He is a 40-year resident of this area and a decorated triathlete.
In June, his family needed help from the community to bring him home from Florida where he had been living.
Donors came up with enough to fly him home on a charity air ambulance called Grace on Wings.
Now, his family is raising money again -- this time to give back.
In one week, the first Barron Lake Triathlon will take place for the Racing for Steve-O Foundation. The foundation benefits kids with special needs. Proceeds from the foundation help send those kids to different camps.
Their first major fundraiser will be held at the Barron Lake Triathlon on August 30. You can visit racingforsteveo.org for more information.
