Benton Harbor School Board votes to hire new superintendent, eventual district CEO
The Benton Harbor School Board met behind closed doors tonight. When they emerged, we learned they had voted to hire Robert Herrera as the district's superintendent – eventually transitioning into a position of CEO over the district.
Herrera is the superintendent of the South Haven schools – a position he's held for the past few years.
School board members would not tell us how Herrera was selected – or if there were other candidates for the job.
They said they'll be holding a news conference in the coming days.
Former superintendent Shelly Walker resigned in April after being placed on leave while the school board investigated what they called a "complaint about her."
Earlier this week the school board voted to pursue legal action against Walker and former football coach Elliot Uzelac for statements the board said "caused irreparable harm to individual members and school employees."
