'Time heals nothing' — Elkhart child's murder remains unsolved

This weekend marked a significant time in the Elkhart community.

Remembering a cold case investigation in which the victim was a young girl. Saturday would have been Kristyana Jackson's 12th birthday.

The girl was killed five years ago when a group of men opened fire on her family.

It happened in Elkhart in 2012, and the case has yet to be solved. But police say there are people out there who know what happened.

The girl's parents still struggle to cope.

"Time heals nothing," Kimi Jackson, Kristyana's mother, told WSBT 22. "Every day I miss a milestone. I will never see her be a young lady, be a woman or mom. Every day I don't have her I deal with that reality. I will never have that with her and every day that is hard."

"I will never give up hope it will be solved. I can't."

The family still raises money to keep billboards up around the Elkhart area -- in the hope that one day someone who knows something will see Kristyana's image and be moved to go to police.
