Cold makes job more difficult for firefighters
The bitter cold is forcing local firefighters to take extra steps.
After every call, all pumps and hoses must be dried in order to prevent them from freezing and become unusable.
Clay fire officials say the ice makes responding to calls more difficult.
"We get a layer of ice on anything on the roads, on the ladders. It becomes a little more dangerous for us just trying to work on those surfaces," said Clay Battalion Chief Todd Wetter.
Fire officials say the sheer amount of snow has slowed down their process.
They are also asking you to keep the area around a fire hydrant near your home clear in case it needs to be used.
