Cops: Over 14,000 pot plants found in 'armed camp' in Van Buren Co.
A raid of an armed camp in Van Buren County turned up 14,860 "well-tended" marijuana plants, according to Michigan State Police.
According to a news release issued today, this happened last Tuesday in what police call a "secluded area" of Covert Township.
The Southwest Enforcement Team was working on a tip when they say they found the camp being tended by two armed, Hispanic males. The two ran off and were chased by officers with dogs.
The K9s tracked the suspects several miles to a location off County Road 376 at 196, say police. That's where they might have been transported out of the area by accomplices.
Beside the pot plants, police also found long guns dropped by the suspects. They say the camp showed signs of being a "long-term encampment."
Police are asking anyone who might have seen the suspects being picked up to call them at 269-982-8664 and leave a message.
