WSBT 22 First Alert Weather: Winter Storm Warnings, Advisories in effect
In the video above we have forecast updates from WSBT 22 meteorologists Matt Rudkin and Ed Russo as well as information about how storms hammering the East Coast are affecting flights here.
The following Winter Alerts are in effect through the rest of the week:
A *WINTER STORM WARNING* is in effect for LaPorte, St, Joseph (IN), Berrien (MI) and Cass (MI) counties. An additional 8-12” of accumulation is likely, with storm total of 12-18 inches in parts of the area. Travel will be difficult with zero visibility at times through the rest of the week.
A *WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY* is in effect for Elkhart and Marshall counties. Storm total of 4-7 inches of snow expected for these areas, with slow travel conditions expected.
A *WIND CHILL ADVISORY* is in effect for Kosciusko, Marshall, Fulton and Pulaski counties tonight. Temperatures will dip below zero in these areas, with wind chill values near -20°. At these levels, frostbite can occur within 30 minutes.
The snow will be very light & fluffy-- classic lake effect. That means it will blow and drift easily. This snow is difficult for crews to deal with, so allow for extra travel time Thursday and Friday. Any ice under the snow will compact further, making it even more difficult for crews to remove.
