DRIVERS BEWARE: Black ice possible as temperatures drop tonight
Temperatures will begin falling below freezing after 4 p.m. EST, and especially into the evening.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is cautioning motorists to slow down and be aware of icy conditions.
According to a release, since 7:00 this morning, Elkhart County officers have responded to 12 crashes due to slick road conditions that are present on some county roads and subdivisions.
Highway crews were called out to apply salt and sand.
With cold temperatures tonight, all the water currently on the roads will freeze. Please be alert to area-wide black ice, especially on secondary roads that likely won't be treated.
