Emancipation of African American slaves commemorated in South Bend Juneteenth celebration
Families in South Bend came together for Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of African American slaves in the south in 1865.
Saturday's event collaborated with celebrations around the nation.
South Bend families joined in on the Major Taylor Bike Ride.
They biked around LaSalle Park on Washington Street.
It is named after Marshall Walter "Major" Taylor, who won the 1-mile track cycling championship in 1899. He was the first African American to achieve that title.
