Firefighters rescue man from house fire in South Bend

Firefighters respond to house fire on Myrtle Road// WSBT 22

A man is in critical condition after being pulled from a house fire in South Bend.

Firefighters from six different departments were called to the 60100 block of Myrtle Road just before 1 p.m. Monday.

Units arrived on scene and say a woman was found standing in the yard. When fire officials asked if everyone was out of the home, she said a man was still on the second floor.

Battalion Chief Tony Reeves of Southwest Central Fire Territory says the victim is a friend of the family that owns the house.

Reeves says the man’s injuries appear to be mainly due to smoke inhalation.

Because of the severity of the man’s injuries, the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office was called in to investigate.

The cause is still under investigation.
