A Cass County judge Friday sentenced a former Edwardsburg police officer who admitted stealing prescription medicine from a home last Christmas Eve.

Jesse Holmes, 24, of Dowagiac responded to a 911 call when he nabbed the medication.

According to our partners at the South Bend Tribune, Judge Michael Dodge sentenced Holmes to two years of probation.

Dodge suspended Holmes' one-year jail term, providing Holmes complies with terms of his probation.

The judge pointed out that Holmes, who earlier entered a no-contest plea to a first-degree home invasion charge, already has paid a high price by losing his law enforcement job.
