Gunman opens fire in South Bend church
South Bend police are trying to figure out the motive this morning behind a church shooting the city's northwest side.
This happened just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Kingdom Christian Center Church on Elwood Avenue.
Police say the gunman fired two shots at a church staff member practicing drums then ran away.
The man was not hit, but he ran to a nearby home and later returned to the church to talk with investigators.
Police don't know whether the man was the intended target or if this was a random shooting.
Investigators don't believe it was an assault towards the church.
Canneth Lee is the pastor of the church. He was out of town at the time but posted this message on Facebook:
It says in part, "Thank God no one was hurt, but this is a disrespect of God's house and we will not be silent."
Police say the victim was not able to provide a description of the suspect.
