Indian Housing Block Grant awards Pokagon Band of Potawatomi with $2.3 million
June is National Homeownership Month.
That means the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, federal, state and local partners come together to mark the significance of owning a home.
This year the Indian Housing Block Grant awarded the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi with nearly $2.3 million.
The chairman of the tribe says, owning a home is the basis of living the American dream.
"It's a holistic approach to a housing need. But when you think about it, it also lifts that person up because when you have the basics, food, shelter, then everything else just kind of falls into place. Because then you start feeling a good self-esteem about yourself,” said John P. Warren, chairman Pokagan Band of Potawatomi.
The new homes will be built in Hartford making 10 new homes for residents.
