Indiana Michigan Power to lower water levels of the St. Joseph River
Starting Tuesday, Indiana Michigan Power will begin the annual drawdown of the St. Joseph River.
The water level will be lowered about two feet over four days.
It's done to help reduce ice buildup and flooding upstream of the Elkhart Hydroelectric Dam.
The river will be returned to its normal level in the spring.
I&M owns six hydroelectric facilities on the St. Joseph River.
