Family wants answers after La Porte County Jail inmate dies
An Indiana family wants answers after a woman died in her cell at the La Porte County Jail.
The loved ones of 35-year-old Andrea Roberts think circumstances surrounding her death are suspicious.
"We're not understanding how one day you’re talking to her on the phone and she's perfectly fine and then the next day you're getting a phone call at 2 in the morning saying she's deceased, but you don't know how," said Sade Williams, Roberts’ sister.
"I think something happened and they don't want us to know," said Diane Williams, Roberts’ aunt.
According to a press release from the La Porte County Sheriff's Department, the 35-year old mother of two was discovered unconscious Saturday night during a routine cell check and count by a jail supervisor. She was taken to the hospital in LaPorte but died soon after.
The La Porte County sheriff says she had been incarcerated at the jail since June of this year.
Her family says she only had about two weeks left of her sentence.
An autopsy was scheduled for today.
