Jury: LaPorte schools not liable for sexual contact between player and coach
A jury has found LaPorte Community Schools are not liable in a lawsuit filed by a former student.
She claims the district did nothing to stop sexual contact between her and a volleyball coach, Robert Ashcraft.
According to Stan Madduux with our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune, the former student was seeking $500,000 to $700,000 in damages for each of the 25 encounters.
Ashcraft was convicted in 2011 of having sexual contact with a minor.
Right now he is serving a 21-year sentence.
