La Porte AD and coach catch break in volleyball scandal
No jail time for two La Porte High School employees accused of not reporting a junior varsity volleyball coach having sex with a female student.
Athletic Director Ed Gilliland and former volleyball coach Mary Beth Lebo will have their cases dismissed if they don't get into any more legal trouble for a year.
Robert Ashcraft is serving a 21-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor and child seduction.
Ashcraft and a female player had a sexual relationship between 2007 and 2009.
Gilliland remains the school's athletic director, and Lebo is still a teacher but is no longer the girls varsity volleyball coach.
As part of the deal, Gilliland and Lebo will also have to help create a program to train educators at La Porte H.S. how to report abuse or neglect.
The two face a civil suit against them filed by the victim.
