Local businessman, police officer selling 'Breathe Easy' t-shirts
"I Can't Breathe" is a phrase that continues to gain national attention and momentum.
A Mishawaka police officer and business owner has come up with his own phrase in response to "I Can't Breathe."
His name is Jason Barthel and he says he wanted to do something that would bring people together not tear them apart.
He owns South Bend Uniform and came up with the phrase "Breathe Easy Don't Break the Law."
He's putting it on t-shirts and they're selling pretty quickly.
The phones at his business have been ringing off the hook and he's already received more than 100 online orders.
Barthel says he doesn't hold any animosity toward Notre Dame or the players for wearing the "I Can't Breathe shirts" but he says his shirt is an opportunity to show the other side of the story.
He says the other side is the police prospective.
Barthel says there is a point to the phrase that he came up with.
He adds, "We are not here to do anything negative to the public. We're here to protect the public and we want you to breathe easy knowing that the police are here to be with you and for you and protect you."
