Michiana celebrates mothers
Mother's Day is a day to celebrate moms everywhere. WSBT 22 spent the day seeing how Michiana was making the most of the day for mom.
With the great weather, a lot of moms were spending their day outside.
While it is a day for them, many moms chose to spend their day with their kids. Whether it be a walk in the park, enjoying some ice cream or playing a round of mini golf.
For Marianne Fitzgerald, it was the first time Mother's Day was about her.
"I became a mom February 3, 2017. This is my first baby," Fitzgerald told WSBT 22. "It is overwhelming and joyful and an exhilarating experience, and just pretty remarkable. I feel really grateful and really blessed."
The Maydole family decided Sunday was a good day for some frozen yogurt.
"Somebody mentioned it, and we all kind of jumped on the bandwagon."
Amy says Mother's Day has changed now that her kids are teens.
"They're much more independent. They're able to get up and make me breakfast in the morning, which is nice. They are a bit more conscious of what Mother's Day actually means."
At 69, Mary Jenner is not new to Mother's Day. But spending time with all three generations of her family makes the holiday her favorite of them all.
"You know schedules get busy and we don't get to see each other very much, so this is a really nice thing so we can all come together."
No matter how they decided to spend their day, all the moms agreed it was a day well spent.
"I love everything about being a mom. My kids are my life. They are the reason I get up every day," said Maydole.
Jasmine Swanson became a mom for the first time Sunday.
She gave birth to her son Jayceon DonQuell Austin at Memorial Hospital a little after 2 Sunday afternoon.
He weighs 7 pounds, 3 ounces.
