      Police search for answers in South Bend traffic crash that kills 2

      The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) is investigating a deadly car crash on South Bend's southeast side.

      Police say shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday, a Cadillac hit a Ford pickup truck and hit a fire hydrant, utility pole and tree.

      4 people were in the Cadillac. One passenger, Jonathan Hernandez, 17, died on the scene.

      The driver, Jose Diaz, 26, was taken to Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

      A second passenger, Marco Leal Espino, 24, died at the hospital.

      A third passenger, Manuel Ruiz, 22, was also rushed to the hospital.

      The FACT unit was activated because of the seriousness of the injuries and is continuing to conduct interviews and collect evidence to find out what caused the deadly crash.
