On Sunday, a Niles Township homeowner told police he and his wife found two men in their basement Sunday and one of the home invaders shot the wife.

The 55-year-old woman -- now identified as Carla Jean Lewis -- was given first aid, but was pronounced dead on scene.

On Monday, police said the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force was now investigating, along with the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, and Berrien County Homicide Task Force.

Police are still looking for two suspects. They say they should be considered armed and dangerous.

The homicide happened just before 6 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lawndale in Niles Township.

The husband -- 49-year-old John Benton Lewis -- told police the two suspects ran from the home, stealing a 2008 Mazda SX9 wagon SUV, dark in color, with Michigan plates CMY3721. If you see it, call 911 or contact the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office at (269) 983-7141 right away.

John Lewis was taken to jail, as police say they discovered in the course of the investigation that he was not in compliance with the Medical Marijuana Act.
