Ribbon cutting held for new power plant opening in St. Joseph County
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY —
A big celebration to mark the opening of a new power plant in St. Joseph County.
Local and state leaders took part in a ribbon cutting Wednesday.
St. Joseph Energy LLC opened a natural gas-fired power plant in New Carlisle.
It will generate more than 700 MegaWatts of clean, competitive energy for the region.
"What we've seen is, between development partners in this project, they're great community partners. So, some of the investment that they've made will not only help their development, but will also help us attract future development to this area. So it's great," said Andy Kostielney (R) St. Joseph County commissioner.
If the company is able to sell the power, the county is in talks to double the size of the plant.
Then it would provide enough electricity to power one million homes.
