Play time at the hospital - It seems unlikely, but child life specialists say it's key for children to get well.
Tracy Byler is a child life specialist at South Bend's Memorial Hospital and says she helps kids adjust, explaining every aspect of what's happening from who is taking care of them to the machines being used to help them to the play that's so essential to getting kids back on their feet.
And she says it works.
"There's research that shows that kids that receive preparation and support prior to and during procedures - that they actually leave the hospital sooner."
Byler says another key is working with parents to provide emotional support for them to help support their children.
