South Bend cops dismiss city, council from suit against Henry Davis Jr.
Four South Bend cops -- Tim Corbett, Dave Wells, Brian Young and Steve Richmond -- have dismissed the city of South Bend and the South Bend Common Council from a slander lawsuit against Henry Davis Jr. They are still suing Davis personally.
The following release was issued Monday morning by the law office representing the officers:
"The plaintiffs (Corbett, Young, Wells and Richmond) have voluntarily dismissed the City of South Bend and the South Bend Common Council from this litigation, leaving only Henry Davis Jr. There was no settlement agreement reached with the City of South Bend or the South Bend Common Council. Plaintiffs made the decision to voluntarily dismiss the City of South Bend and the South Bend Common Council on their own. This case has never been about money. After last week's news accounts regarding the sums of money that have been spent by the South Bend Common Council, plaintiffs determined that further taxpayer dollars should not be spent to defend the actions of Henry Davis Jr. The case remains against Henry Davis Jr. personally. Any monies received in this case will be paid to some charitable fund supporting police officers."
