South Bend Police and NIPSCO warn community of door-to-door scam
SOUTH BEND —
A warning from police about a utility scam that's going door-to-door in South Bend.
They say a white man in his 20’s is knocking on doors claiming to be from NIPSCO and asking for payment.
He's driving a light colored truck but never shows any ID.
Police say people are calling them after he's left the area. They want people to call right away so they can track him down.
"Just know that NIPSCO will never go door to door. NIPSCO will never ask you to give them money that way, they will also never call you asking them to use gift cards or any other ways to make a payment,” said South Bend Police Spokesperson, Ken Garcia.
Most of the calls have been coming from South Bend's east side.
