Teachers getting some much-needed help with school supplies
It's not what teachers and students want to hear, but some groups are already helping teachers get ready for the start of school next month.
GreenLockers collected nearly 25,000 pounds of slightly used school supplies from students across the area, and Friday, they started distributing the goodies to teachers at three locations - Clay Church in Clay Township, Waypoint Community Church in Goshen and Granger Community Church in Elkhart.
You can find things like pencils, paper, glue, even educational games.
For teachers, it's a great opportunit.
"We had a woman that is a first-year teacher starting up with a 5-, 6-year-old class and almost left in tears just because of the joy that she felt in being able to have some supplies," said Doug Fecher of Clay Church. "Knowing that it was the first year for her, it was just a blessing and relief to be able to have something to start the classroom with this fall."
The event continues Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Ted Bryant from Bethel College started GreenLockers eight years ago as a way to help teachers and charitable organizations.
