TRAFFIC: Major Elkhart railroad crossing to close for two weeks
A major railroad crossing in Elkhart is getting some major updates.
The crossing will close Monday morning at 8 a.m.
It will be closed Monday through Friday from 8-5 for the next two weeks.
This is a pretty busy area through Elkhart. But Norfolk Southern says this will enhance the safety and infrastructure for this area.
The railroad will realign two tracks, install new rail-ties and tie plates, as well as repave the roadway crossing the tracks with new asphalt.
Norfolk Southern says this will ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable rail transportation network.
Detours will be posted.
Northbound traffic is encouraged to follow Prairie Street north to Middlebury Street and west to Main Street.
Southbound traffic is encouraged to follow Middlebury Street east to Prairie Street and south to Main Street.
Additionally, Main Street will be closed intermittently between April and November for additional work.
That construction schedule is not finalized yet.
