Crews deal with several accidents, including 32-car pileup near Paw Paw

Viewer Joe Brown sent us this photo of a crash at mm 69 on the Toll Road.

Even though we've had about an inch of snow, it's been persistent, and road conditions around the region have been an issue throughout the morning and early afternoon.

As of noon the South Bend police department says they have responded to about 30 crash reports, and still have many more pending that they haven't gotten to yet.

Almost 50 crash calls in total.

This isn't just South Bend. We are told it's everywhere.

There was a 10 car pileup on Angela Boulevard on the hill just east of Michigan Street, near the old St. Joseph High School.

Police are urging everyone to slow down and be careful.

And if you do get in a minor crash and don't want to wait for police, you can file your own report on the department's website. Just make sure you get all the information from everyone involved-- especially drivers' license and license plate numbers and insurance.

Pileup near Paw Paw

There was a big pile up on I-94 Thursday near Paw Paw, Michigan.

Police say the chain reaction crash happened when a tow truck was attempting to remove a vehicle and slid off into a ditch.

They say a number of drivers tried to slow down, but ended up sliding into each other, leading to the 32-car pile up.

The good news, just minor injuries.

The road was shut down in both directions for a while as crews worked to clear the scene.

At 10:20 a.m. Michigan State Police issued the following release:

PAW PAW, MICH. Troopers are asking motorists to avoid I-94 westbound in Van Buren County due to a pileup involving approximately 32 vehicles near Paw Paw. I-94 is currently closed westbound at Mattawan (exit 66) while vehicles are being cleared from the freeway. There are several minor injuries; however, none seem to be life threatening. This stretch of freeway is expected to be closed until approximately noon today.
