UPDATE: Victims identified in fatal South Bend shooting

The sun rises over the shooting scene between Johnson and Huey Streets in South Bend. Two people are dead and two are others are wounded.

We have new information in the investigation of a deadly shooting in South Bend.

Police say 25-year-old Anton James Junior and 29-year-old Damon Bethel died after suffering apparent gunshot wounds.

24-year-old Alyssa Sanchez and 34-year-old Joshua Sage are in critical condition in the hospital.

This happened around 11:21 p.m. Wednesday night.

Neighbors say the gunshots rang out and sounded like fireworks outside of their homes.

Police are still taking this scene apart and say it could stay that way through the rest of the night.

“Some of my other neighbors have lived here for 30 plus years and they say they've never seen anything like this around here before,” said Jenny Woolley.

Woolley was getting ready for bed when the shots rang out.

“It sounded like a bunch of M80s going off right up against my window,” she said.

Other neighbors like Austin Smith heard it too -- feeling like those shots were too close to home.

“Shocking. Just majorly shocking. Not used to seeing something like that, even in this kind of neighborhood. Usually it's a quiet and peaceful neighborhood,” said Smith.

Police say ShotSpotter picked up the gunfire in the 800 block of Huey street.

“I come outside and there's about 10 to 12 cops, just like that. That quick. I don't think anybody had a chance to dial 911,” Woolley said.

Investigators say there were several people at the corner of Fredrickson and Huey when officers arrived. They also found a vehicle that crashed several blocks down near the Johnson and Fredrickson streets.

Anton James Jr. was found dead inside and appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds. Damon Bethel was found dead in the 2100 block of Fredrickson.

?”I already didn't feel safe walking out my front door. It just makes it that much worse,” Smith said.

Police say two others were taken to the hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Alyssa Sanchez and Joshua Sage are in critical condition.

“This stuff is scary. I think just about everybody in the neighborhood is ready to move out and get away from it all,” said Woolley.

Police say these two men were arrested but it's not clear if they are connected to this crime.

40-year-old Ronald Snyder Jr. was arrested on preliminary suspicion of possession of meth - with the intent to deliver.

37-year old Robert Brady Jr. was arrested on preliminary suspicion of a felon in possession of a firearm.
