UPDATE: Dowagiac police say family found missing teen


A missing Dowagiac teen has been located and is unharmed, according to police.

The family of 17-year-old Daven Brown contacted police after they say he did not return home after leaving Monday night in his parent's Ford Taurus.

Brown has since been located and told police he was with friends and forgot to tell his family where he was.

The following is an updated release from the Dowagiac Director of Public Safety:

The Dowagiac Police Department reports that the missing person, Daven Brown, has been located and is currently with family. During the investigation, Dowagiac Police contacted A Child Is Missing for alerts, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, local media, and several surrounding law enforcement agencies. Family members reported an increase in "conversation" on social media which alerted to a possible location. Mr. Brown was located by family and was returned home.

Dowagiac Police were able to speak with Mr. Brown upon his return home and he advised that he was with friends during his time away from home and neglected to tell family of his whereabouts. Mr. Brown will not face any charges or penalties as a result of this incident and Dowagiac Police are happy that he has returned home safely.
