UPDATE: Name released of mom arrested for neglect after South Bend crash

A mother was arrested on suspicion of neglect after the vehicle she was driving left the road and struck a tree, injuring her son and daughter.

Police and emergency crews responded to the crash in the 3000 block of S. Locust Road around 8:30 Friday night.

Capt. Phil Trent tells us31-year-old Cindi Mann was driving south on Locust between Prairie Avenue and Ireland Road when she left the road and struck a tree.

Officials say Mann's 2-year-old son, who investigators believe was not properly restrained, was placed in a medically induced coma Friday due to a head injury. He remains in intensive care at a local hospital.

His 6-year-old sister was also injured, receiving cuts to her face, Trent says.

Mann was arrested on suspicion of neglect of a dependent and cited for driving without a license.

Trent says police are still waiting on toxicology results to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Mann bonded out of jail on Saturday.
