UPDATE: Police release new details on chase that ended on Notre Dame campus
South Bend and Notre Dame police officers are investigating after a chase overnight.
We're told a car with three people inside didn't yield for a traffic stop and drove away from the officer.
The driver has been identified as 20-year-old Camron Newcomer. Two others, 19-year-old Kayla Stanton and 19-year-old Xavier Keith, were passengers in the vehicle.
The car drove through campus. Then those inside the car got our near the baseball field and ran away.
Police eventually caught all of the suspects in various areas.
They say the officer was initially looking for a Pontiac G6 that was involved in an incident in River Park.
This was NOT the vehicle they were looking for, but Newcomer fled from the officer as he tried to attempt an investigation, according to Capt. Phil Trent with the South Bend Police Department.
"The only thing we can assume is they ran because they had been drinking. They were not suspects in anything else," Trent says.
Newcomer has been charged with resisting by flight, reckless driving, and minor consuming. Stanton and Keith were both arrested for minor consuming and resisting by flight (on foot).
