UPDATE: Power restored to city of Niles after transformer fire

Most of the city of Niles was without power Tuesday morning for several hours.

Dispatch says a transformer at the Lake Street substation caught on fire around 9 this morning.

An Indiana Michigan Power spokesperson tells WSBT the fire was "not at all" a similar situation to the major power outage that happened in downtown South Bend last month.

He says the fire happened at a privately owned substation, which feeds into a nearby I&M substation.

Power had been restored by 10:30 a.m., according to Niles Police Department.
