Warsaw police: Man arrested for attempted murder after drug deal gone bad
Warsaw police say a woman trying to buy marijuana in a Wal-Mart parking lot had to pepper-spray the dealer to defend herself and was then shot in the arm.
Police say they responded to an address near U.S. 30 and State Road 15 around 11:30 Saturday night. They found a woman in her car suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Minutes later they were called to the Lassus Handy Dandy, on State Road 15 North, where a man told them he was robbed and pepper-sprayed.
Police realized the calls were related. They say their investigation determined this was a drug deal gone bad.
The woman who was shot was trying to buy an ounce of marijuana in the Warsaw Wal-Mart parking lot when the suspect approached the car with a gun, say police. The woman then pepper-sprayed him and started to drive away when police say the suspect shot her.
The shooting victim drove south and then pulled over to call 911.
Edward Bishop, 25, of Lafayette was taken into custody. Police say a search of his vehicle turned up "a 9mm handgun, several designer drugs, marijuana, and a substantial amount of counterfeit money."
"Edward Bishop was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on initial charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, counterfeiting, possession of narcotics with intent to deal, and possession of marijuana with intend to deal," according to a news release from the Warsaw Police Department. "He is being held with no bond on a prosecutorial hold."
The shooting victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where she was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, say police.
The investigation is ongoing.
