Dozens of animals removed from suspected hoarding situation

WSBT 22

POLAND, Ind. (AP) -- Officials say more than 80 animals including nearly 30 pot-bellied pigs have been removed from a suspected animal hoarding situation in western Indiana.

The Owen County Humane Society says dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, and a rooster and guinea pig also were taken last week from a property in the Owen County community of Poland. Law enforcement officials were there for another investigation when they discovered the animals.

The animals were reportedly being kept in filthy conditions, surrounded by mud and feces. Some enclosures had no light or ventilation.

The Owen County Humane Society is caring for most of the animals. It says the 11 goats were taken to an animal rescue in Spencer.
