Pedestrian dies after being hit by a train in downtown Battle Creek

A woman whom police said was homeless died Thursday afternoon after she was hit by a train near Fountain and Division streets in downtown Battle Creek. (WWMT/Cyrus Raymond)

A woman whom police said was homeless died Thursday afternoon after she was hit by a train near Fountain and Division streets in downtown Battle Creek.

Police said witnesses reported that the was walking from Fountain Street towards the train tracks when she was hit. She died at the scene.

The train conductor told police that he kept whistling to get her attention before the incident, but she didn’t move.

Her identity has not yet been released, but police said she was in her 40s or 50s.
