Trooper shot during traffic stop in Missaukee County
MISSAUKEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Law enforcement is investigating after a Michigan State Police Trooper was shot in Missaukee County.
MSP said the shooting happened during a traffic stop in Lake Township around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The preliminary investigation indicates the trooper stopped the vehicle with three people, two men and one woman, inside.
Officials said one man ran from the vehicle and started firing at the trooper and the trooper returned fire.
The trooper was hit several times.
According to investigators, the trooper was conscious and alert when taken to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with non life-threatening injuries.
The gunman is deceased.
The other two occupants, who remained in the vehicle, are in custody.
The name of the injured trooper is not being released at this time.
