Open enrollment deadline for health insurance approaching
SOUTH BEND —
South Bend city leaders are talking about health insurance.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg is encouraging people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act.
Buttigieg says health insurance is more affordable than ever. Most families can get coverage for less than $100 a month.
He says not having it can be costly. You may be slapped with a $695 tax penalty.
"Even though this is an issue that's really driven by federal policy, we want to make sure that right here in South Bend everybody knows that they have access to plans at healthcare.gov and that time is running out,” said Buttigieg.
The open enrollment period ends December 15. That's a shorter window than in years past.
