Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete: Marian's Michael Hemingway
On Tuesday Michael Hemingway represented Marian in the Michiana All-Star Game.
"To know that I tried and willed my team and I'm considered one of the best players and to be selected in this game means a lot," he said.
Michael's inclusion in the event shows just how much he has meant to the Knights' basketball program.
A three-year starter, the guard has helped Marian ammass a 77-20 record over his four seasons, helping lead the Knights to a sectional title as a sophomore.
Just the third in program history.
"My first year we didn't get that chance," he said. "We fell short by like two or three points, and I was saddened by that, but that next year playing with Jair and we led the team and got our first sectional championship. That felt good."
Hemingway's role only increased. In his senior season, Michael led the team with 18 points and 5 assists per game, helping the Knights win 20 or more games for the third time in four seasons.
"To know that you're a main focus and to know that your teammates and everyone else depend on you, then you know you have a lot to fulfill and work to do. But I did enjoy my final year, it was a lot of fun playing with the team and at Marian."
And the guard is hoping to find a spot at the next level similar to Marian where he can continue to thrive on the court and in the classroom.
"Hopefully they'll welcome me like they did at Marian over my last four years."
