Early 2nd half run sends Bethel past Goshen

After a poor shooting performance in the first half the No. 20 ranked Bethel College Pilots started the second half on a 19-4 run to push passed the Goshen College Maple Leafs 82-65 Tuesday night in Crossroads League play.

Bethel was led by senior forward Patrick Oetting who scored 20 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocks. Zach Miller added 18 points on an impressive 6-for-12 shooting from the perimeter. Matt Schauss scored 14 points while tallying 10 rebounds and nine assists on the night. The senior duo of Ryan Benner and Michael Mislan combined for 20 points scoring 10 points apiece.

Bethel, known for their prolific offense, connected on just 2-of-11 shots from beyond the arc including a dismal 6-for-15 from the charity stripe in the opening stanza. Despite their cold shooting the Pilots still managed a slim 30-29 advantage at the break.

In the second the Pilots connected on 8-of-14 from downtown that helped build a lead as many as 21 points.

For the game Bethel shot 52.9 percent from the field (29-for-55) while winning the battle of the boards 49 to 35.
