Fairfield Falcons fine being underdogs at regional
Goshen, IN —
You just have to get hot at the right time.
It may sound like coach speak, but its true. Especially for Fairfield boys hoops.
The Falcons scored one of the biggest upsets in the IHSAA sectional tournament when they downed Class 3A No. 2 NorthWood 59-51.
But their sectional tournament wasn't over. The Falcons still had to get through West Noble, a conference opponent that they had lost to 56-50 earlier in the year.
This time was different.
Thanks to that early round upset, Fairfield had a bit more confidence in the sectional title game, defeating West Noble 59-49 to capture their first sectional crown since 2010 and their first ever while in Class 3A.
But with a (13-12) record the Falcons are likely to be counted out once again in the regional. Fairfield will go up against Fort Wayne Leurs who has won 11 of their last 13 games and features a rich tradition of post season success.
Being an underdog is how Fairfield got here, and they're fine with carrying that identity over into the regional.
