Maddon: Darvish feels pain in triceps
Cubs starter Yu Darvish became the third Cubs major leaguer to play in a rehab game in South Bend. Since the team aligned with South Bend 4 years ago.
It sounds like there's a chance he might need to return again.
Joe Maddon met with the media prior to today's game in Los Angeles, and said that Darvish is still feeling pain in his right triceps.
Darvish admitted to WSBT 22 on Monday night following his rehab start that he felt off and referred to it as arm fatigue.
But he threw a bullpen session today, and told the Cubs coaching staff that he feels pain in the triceps. Meaning he will not be activated this weekend and return to the starting rotation.
"Didn't go that well," said Maddon. "He was not able to cut it loose so we're going to re-evaluate when we get back to Chicago and we'll let you know the next step, but right now he's not going to be able to pitch on Saturday. He still felt the pain on extension, he said, and he was not able to turn it loose. He threw really well in South Bend. I did see some of it on video. Prior to that he had pitched at our place in a sim-game and threw the ball really, really well, before we hit the road. So between then and now, he just doesn't feel right."
