Irish hockey clinches a Big Ten title with a win
NOTRE DAME —
Notre Dame hockey skates for the Big Ten title this weekend.
The Irish are sitting back on top of the polls, ranked No. 1 in the nation, and they've been on top of the Big Ten all season long.
This Friday and Saturday, they host 2nd place Ohio State.
If the Irish win just one of those games, they will clinch the Big Ten regular season title in their first season in the league.
Head coach Jeff Jackson wants his team to keep its focus on Ohio State, and not the potential league title.
"It's important for a number of reasons frankly. They're the sixth ranked team in the country. So, this is the best team we've played probably since Denver, just based on the pair wise. We're playing a really top opponent, one of the top opponents in the country right now. It's not just about the conference standings, it's about the national standings too," Jackson added, "For me, I haven't brought it up much, and obviously I don't need to because I'm sure they are aware of the situation. It'd be a feather in their cap and great for our program obviously with it being our first year in the Big Ten, but we've still got to go out and work and earn it."
