Notre Dame Lacrosse previews NCAA Quarterfinals match-up
NOTRE DAME —
Notre Dame takes on Denver in the NCAA Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, May 20 for a chance to punch its ticket to the final four the following weekend.
Notre Dame is the only program to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship in each of the last eight campaigns. Saturday will be the 23rd meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Denver, in which the Irish lead the all-time series 14-8. The last installment between the two sides came earlier this season in Denver on March 12. The Pioneers escaped with an 11-10 victory, scoring the game-winning goal with no time left on the clock. Five of the last seven meetings have gone into at least one overtime session and seven of the last eight installments in the series have been decided by one goal. This weekend’s match-up will be the second between the two sides in an NCAA tournament. Denver won the first game in the 2015 NCAA semifinals in overtime by a score of 11-10. Sergio Perkovic scored a remarkable five fourth quarter goals to help send the game into overtime before Denver prevailed. The last Irish victory in the series came during the 2013 season, as Notre Dame won by a final score of 13-12 in overtime.
The showdown will take place at Shuart Stadium on the Hofstra campus in Hempstead, New York. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET.
