Notre Dame men's golf finishes 4th in Handrigan's debut

The Notre Dame men's golf team got a new season and a new era off to a great start this week.

The Irish finished fourth out of 16 teams at Wisconsin's Badger Invitational.

Notre Dame was led by junior Ben Albin (-9) who made nine birdies Tuesday and finished third overall out of 102 players.

It's exactly the type of result new head coach John Handrigan was hoping for in his first tournament.

"I think this week went a long way, to see some results come through," Handrigan says.

"There were issues in the past where they had trouble finishing. This was a total opposite. We started a little slow but we had a great week. "

With five players finishing in the top-33 overall, Handrigan says its a great confidence builder for his program, looking to get back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012.

"The guys are moving in the right direction."
